I love the idea of getting so comfortable with the lines that you can exist in the presence of the moment. I have been getting these Brando reels from his screen test, ON THE WATERFRONT, and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. The ease with which he imbues every single moment with living and presence is still humbling. Although I didn't see QUEEN LEAR, I certainly wished I had. I bet you gave every moment the same feel of authentic self.

Words in the hand of some like Brando, who knew how to make love to the camera, even in his early yearshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVTTfx3aryM, is something to behold:

Your ease radiated as Queen Lear! After learning from you, when I see a beautiful performance, I always think "I just watched years of practice and preparation."

Thanks again Kate!

What an inspiration! You can’t get or give better advice for a performance than this. Thanks for the reminders. Wish I could have seen your Queen Lear, although I did get to see the great Glenda Jackson performance, as I sat just two seats away from Boris Johnson. Yes, that Boris Johnson, Oxford English major, Mayor of London, Prime Minister et al and in spite of their huge political differences, friend of Glenda’s. Her performance was perhaps the best I’ve seen, though the Branagh Gielgud audio version with Eileen Atkins and Judi Dench as Goneril and Regan was the best I’ve ever encountered. I’m giving several speeches a week this year on Fiduciary In All things, and your pep talk on preparation will help me tremendously. Great thanks! Perhaps I’ll see you in Hana.

Oh, George!! What a performance to have seen! I watched some of the video of Glenda Jackson. Amazing. Glenda played Lear as a man and I play Lear as a woman which changed so much. Suddenly all the ranting and raving became like a Crone casting spells. Fascinating. Eileen Atkins is one of my all-time favorite actors. Brilliant. XO

Wow, Kate! How cool is that. Lear was the only play I ever thought of wanting to rewrite, at 20 years of age at Harvard reading all the plays for the first time, not because it suffered but because it moved me the most. My 'Third Question' in Life Planning was always to 'live in the weather', and there Lear was. Now, years later, I think of his time on the heath very Zen, direct experience, right to the point, and then the Howls, the perfect articulation. And there you are, rewriting it yourself, becoming the Crone casting spells. How wonderful! Waking up to rain on the roof and the wind howling through the eaves here off Hampstead Heath this morning, I'm reminded how weather and listening move far faster than thought, right at the pace of our authenticity.
